In the early days of the Bitcoin mining wars there was a pivotal moment when ASIC chips began coming to market and stealing significant hashrate from GPU miners. And for a short window of time, cheap USB ASIC miners exploded onto the scene for hobbyists wanting to dip their toes into Bitcoin mining.
Bitmain Technologies Limited released V1.2 of their popular AntMiner USB miner in 2014. The U2 model was based on ASIC BM1380 and came with an increased hash speed of 2gh/s, versus 1.6gh/s on V1.1) while only consuming a measly 1.2 to 2 Watts of power.
This AntMiner on auction has never been used to mine - only spending time in storage as a future Bitcoin collectible. The miner comes in its original case that still displays a SKU sticker. It also has the factory inspection stickers still attached to the board.
Bitcoin mining has a fascinating history, and the Bitmain AntMiner USB ASIC was one of the most influential products recruiting more miners onto the network than arguably any other product before or since.
