Recent events in El Salvador have inspired many Bitcoiners, myself included. Following the news of El Salvador adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, a twitter user, Aldo Antinori, shared his thoughts on the news and this canvas print that I started selling a few years (link).
“El Salvador Mundi” is an adaptation of Da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi,” which translates to Savior of the World. I usually don’t like to just throw a bitcoin on an existing work of art and call it done… but in this case it would have been presumptuous to think that I could ever top Leonardo. And like the Beautyon article that initially inspired this design, Bitcoin is, and that is enough. And in my opinion at least, enough to save the world. For this auction though, I felt like this piece needed an update. A lot has changed in the world of Bitcoin, and I thought this piece should reflect some of that change. What better way than with the timelessness (don’t @ me) of LASER EYES? Also I gave the subject of the piece an Opendime necklace because I love Opendimes and I like to think that Leonardo Da Vinci would have to.
A little backstory, in 2019, Russell Okung threw an event called “Bitcoin Is,” and I brought the canvas with me and asked him to sign it. I’ve had it hanging on my wall since then, but after reading Aldo’s tweet, getting inspired myself by recent events, and seeing the obvious parallels between the meaning of the canvas, what Bitcoin is doing down in El Salvador, and Russell Okung’s involvement with Strike, I thought it would be nice to put this up for auction and see if we can’t raise some more money for the effort down in El Salvador.
100% of proceeds will be donated to Bitcoin Beach.
